Course Description
THE RATIONALE
This course deals with the foundational principles of business law. This introduces the participants to the legal and ethical framework of business. Contracts, negotiable instruments, the law of sales, torts, crimes, constitutional law, the Uniform Commercial Code, and the court systems are examined. Upon completion the participants should be able to identify legal and ethical issues that arise in business decisions and the laws that apply to them
THE COURSE OBJECTIVES:
By the end of this training, participants will be able to learn:
- Identify the elements of a contract
- Interpret legal rules sourced from both statues, and from case law
- Understand the ethical basis of the law
- Be familiar with source, basic legal terminology and lexicon as used in daily business
- Identify legal issues that arise in their daily business lives, and communicate effectively with others to assess such issues
- Describe the structure of the court system
- Describe the basic elements of: a tort (especially the tort of negligence); certain business structures (especially corporations and partnerships); and, a contract
- Apply their legal knowledge to a given fact pattern in order to assess the likely legal outcome; and Justify, and effectively communicate, their legal conclusions and opinion
- Identify laws, conditions and regulations in national and international work environments.
