Course Description

Rationale:

Trade Unions and in fact every facet of workers’ movements all over the world have come under unusual but persistent and orchestrated pressures recently. These organised onslaughts have all combined to threaten the very existence of the Labour movement and the trade unions built on its foundation.

It has therefore become very expedient for the creation of a platform that will help all the major industry partners to seek a better understanding of the present challenges their channels and the degree of impact in order to reduce friction amongst all the partners in the industry.

The need to address the capacity and capability gaps amongst the partners will help partners appreciate the criticality of the prevailing environment and the urgent need to work increasingly together for the mutual benefit of all the parties.

The urgent need for attitudes and perceptions in the industry to be appropriately clarified so that better knowledge of the circumference of power of each of the existence partners will be recognised and respected by other partners. This will positively impact on Industrial Relations climate within the industry. It has also become very important that relevant skills and tools are acquired by parties in the sector and especially the trade unions who are presently under threat.

Course Objective:

At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to;

  • Create a platform for networking amongst participants in the Industry
  • Inculcate in the participants a deeper understanding of the current challenges facing the TradeUnion movement
  • Make participants know the appropriate strategies to adopt to engage these threats
  • Assist participants evolve the needed capacities and capabilities for tackling known and future threats to the movement
  • Assess the available and expected tools and skills that may be needed to successfully confront threats to workers in the industry
  • Change perceptions and attitudes of participants for all social partners in the industry
  • Create an awareness amongst the participants about the objective realities of the operational environment of the industry
  • Create a better understanding amongst the participants about the primacy of the Industry as a living foundation for all social partners
  • Create a more focused and purposeful leaders able to effectively and creatively interact with changes in the industry.
  • Ensure that participants seek at all times the maintenance of creative workplace harmony in the Industry.
